MAY 4TH AT 1:00 PM

Wildfire Prep Day is held on the first Saturday in May every year and many of us use it to kick off our home and community mitigation efforts.  This year, the first Saturday in May happens to be May 4th, or Star Wars Day (as in May the Fourth be with you).
Well, you KNOW I can’t let that go by unnoticed, so…

On that morning (Saturday, 5/4), between 9 and 10am, I will be driving through the community in my orange X-wing fighter (aka Jeep Cherokee).  If you are out cutting trees or clearing slash near the road, you will win a fabulous prize, presented by Darth Vader himself!

That afternoon, from 1-4pm, you are invited to JOIN THE RESISTANCE (to wildfire) at a Community Wildfire Prepared Open House at the Sampson Community Clubhouse, 16150 Sampson Road, across S. Deer Creek Rd from the fire station.  Sampson Community Ambassador, Jennifer Rich and I are teaming up to host this free event. Everyone is welcome.
There will be:
A drawing for a free Wildfire Prepared Home Assessment
Star Wars themed snacks and prizes
and, of course lots of information on:
                    mitigation
                    home hardening
                    evacuation
                    fire-resistant planting
                    and more!

Drop in any time and find out what Jennifer and I and the fire district have been working on, as well as what’s coming up this summer.  And if you know anyone in the neighborhood who is not on our email lists that would like to be, please encourage them to come on out and meet us.

All joking aside, prep day is a great way to start getting ready for this year’s fire season. Choose a project that you can accomplish in a couple of hours.  It doesn’t have to be difficult, or expensive.  Call or email me if you need ideas, or check out nfpa.org/widfireprepday.  Every little bit you do contributes to the safety of our community.

Look for more information in the next 2 weeks and please reach out with any questions.
Hope to see you all on Wildfire Prep Day.

And May The Fourth Be With You!

Cheers,
Katrina

AUGUST 3RD PIG ROAST @ NOON

Last year’s Pig Roast was a huge success! Be sure not to miss it this year as we have even more planned for this year! The festivities begin at noon! Bring your favorite side dish to share and enjoy a feast with your friends and neighbors. This is another treasured event that has continued for many years. Bring yourselves down and meet others in your community. We always have a great time hanging out and meeting new people. If you have any questions about the Pig Roast, please contact any of the Board Members. This favorite fundraiser is only $10.00 per family or $5.00 per person; extra donations are always welcomed. Donations received are put toward the betterment of the Sampson Community Club Building and events. This year we will have even more games and door prizes! And we are adding a PLINKO Game to the mix! Oink…   See ya there!

No problem, come on down anyway and enjoy a bowl of chili and you can help decide who wins! Donations always welcome! Last year’s competition was fierce! All the chili brought to this event was delicious…it was tough to decide….But it was sure fun deliberating!!!

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DINNER – NOVEMBER 2ND @ 3 PM

The Sampson Community Club provides the turkey, and everyone is invited to bring a side dish. This is fun night of fellowship among your neighbors and an opportunity for members to vote for the offices of President and Secretary, which are up for election or re-election this year. This is a great time to hear about the plans of the Sampson Community Club and opportunities to share your thoughts as well. Let’s discuss ideas and potential new events as we enjoy a feast together. We invite you all to join in the fun again this year!
